My personal design philosophy is rooted in nature with an eye toward color, balance and harmony.
Look to Nature
Remodeling or simply redesigning what you currently own can be overwhelming. A common question, when it comes to color, is where to begin? As a designer, I often look to nature.
Take, for example, the time of year. It’s summer now, the colors are bright and vibrant. Ever notice how fresh and clean blue and white look together? That’s just like the sky on a clear day with big white puffy clouds. For a bedroom, look out the windows at the trees. See the green leaves above the brown trunk? Cherry wood furniture and sage green walls are beautiful together.
My home office is a soft sunflower yellow. From there it was easy to imagine where to go with the rest of the colors. The bud of a sunflower is brown, as is my desk, frame of my desk chair and computer table. Grass and sunflowers grow together, just as my soft sage-green sofa in my home office complements the walls and furniture. Get the idea now? It’s really quite simple. Next time, you’re in a color quandary have a look outside. Mother Nature did a pretty good job, don’t you think?
