Don’t forget the big finish…accessories!!
Now that you’ve done your spring cleaning, does your interior still look unfinished?
Accessories are the icing on the cake, the jewelry that makes the “look” complete. By all means use what you already own, especially those items that are precious to you and evoke happy memories.
Lay out all that you think you might use to see how they fit together. Make them your story. Do you see collections you didn’t know you had — like boxes or crystal doorknobs? This is the time to edit, keeping the best of the best. Then fill in the gaps with what is new in the marketplace to give a fresh and updated style to your rooms.
Try grouping like items together for impact. They could be displayed in a tray on a tabletop or cozied together on a shelf. Consider the scale, balance, texture and color when selecting what to group together. All of this gives a sense of order and eliminates the cluttered look.
Flowering plants that will stay all summer, supplementary lighting with colorful lamp shades, photos, books and art all are part of the accessory pool from which to draw. Pull the color scheme you have chosen around the room by using accessories that have touches of your palette in them. A repaint as part of the summer refresher can help pull all the elements together.
Artful placement of just the right object can make that space a main attraction. This is just the time of year to think about a little change. Electrify the style of your rooms — accessorize.
