FUN, FOOD & FASHION
This month we celebrate the arrival of summer, reveal our 2009 Silver Fork restaurant winners, and roll out an exciting new department within our new Lifestyles section.
The fun in the sun starts with Managing Editor Eva Ditler’s story of a spectacularly eccentric beach house in Carlsbad. A few of the highlights: eight bedrooms, a great space served by two fireplaces, views to tomorrow from all three levels, and a party room that opens to the pool, spa and an entertaining area with full kitchen, amphitheater for mini concerts and its own beach.
We also spotlight the tasteful update of a classic Point Loma residence that respects its architectural integrity while commanding some of the best views in San Diego.
You just might think you’re in Casablanca
and Old Mexico when you enjoy our reports and pictures of wonderful new outdoor living/entertaining spaces themed in Moroccan and hacienda design styles. In both cases, the homeowners in Kensington and
Carmel Valley filled the open-air spaces with treasures from their own travels.
Still in the same theme, we asked five top designers for their best ideas to give your home a summery sense of the seaside. They came up with some creative and surprising solutions. Elsewhere in the issue is an actual beachy redo of a home in Pacific Beach.
This month’s featured artist also stays with
our seasonal agenda. Painter Jeff Yeomans is known widely for his sunny expressions of the Southern California coastal scene.
Finally, we reveal the names of the 17 restaurants that have earned our 28th
annual Silver Forks. Three of those award winners give us hitherto secret recipes for some of their most popular dishes.
We also unveil a stunning new department in our new Lifestyles section. In Runway, Senior Editor Phyllis Van Doren keeps you courant on all the trends and news in fashion and jewelry.
